Artificial intelligence is the intelligence demonstrated by machines. It is a branch of computer science of a wide range involved in building intelligent machines that are capable of performing tasks that require human intelligence. These are machines that mimic the actions of humans and can perform tasks like humans. These are systems that think and act rationally to perform tasks. AI applications include web search engines, recommendation systems that are used by Youtube, Netflix, etc, Siri, Alexa (they understand human speech, self-driving cars such as Tesla, and many more).
John McCarthy known as the Father of Artificial intelligence coined the term "Artificial intelligence". He gave the definition - "Artificial intelligence is the science and engineering of making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs. It is related to the similar task of using computers to understand human intelligence, but AI does not have to confine itself to biologically observable methods." This definition was presented by him at a conference on the campus of Dartmouth College in 1956. McCarthy founded an AI laboratory where he worked on versions of a self-driving car, at Stanford University.
